L, Brock, super- intendent of parks in this city and in charg-e of the Convention Garden, is one of the organizers of the Young Men's Business League, which Iwill prove a factor in the entertainment of visitors to the S. A. F. convention to be held here. August 15-17. Dewberry Plantations. The dewberrj-. which has proved profitable in many sections, as it ripens earlier than the true black- berry, which it resembles greatly in some respects, is discussed in Farm- ers' Bulletin 728 of the United States department of agriculture. At present the dewberry is grown most exten- sively in North Carolina and New Jersey, but there are also plantations in Maryland. Texas, Michigan. Mis- souri, Colorado and other states. In the south where the growing season is long, the canes, both old and young, are usually cut off after the fruit is picked. In northern regions where the season is too short to secure a large amount of new growth, the old canes only are removed. The duration of a plantation will depend on the at- tention it receives. In North Carolina plantations 15 years old are still pro- ductive. American Association of Nurserymen. The nurserymen of Rochester, N. Y., are endeavoring to secure a special train from that city to the forty-first annual convention of the above associa- tion at Milwaukee.
