Piranha fish. Coloured X-ray of a piranha fish (Serrasalmus sp.). The powerful jaws and teeth of this predatory fish are yellow. Above the jaw is the eye (green). The fish is propelled by muscle blocks (pink) which form most of its body and drive its caudal (tail) fin (at far right). Other fins are used to steer the fish and include the dorsal fin (at upper right), anal fin (at lower right) and pectoral fin (green), directly behind the lower jaw. Ribs can be seen running off from the spine (yellow & green). Piranhas live in South American rivers where they feed on other fish.
