Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. The entrance hall lobby of the renovated (2003-2013) Rijksmuseum, with a sculpture by Calder and visitors
The Rijksmuseum (Dutch State Museum) is the most visited museum in the Netherlands. It reopened after extensive restoration in 2013. Architect: Pierre Cuypers (1885). Restoration and remodeling architects Antonio Cruz y Antonio Ortiz (2003-2013). Central lobby atrium. Overhead, Cuypers’ glass and iron courtyard roofs have been restored and supplemented with what the architects call “chandeliers” - two massive white MDF and aluminium cages suspended in space. They hold light fixtures and act as sound baffles.
