As theresult, more or less complete data relating to the disposal ofthe street sweepings of 204 cities and towns wero appears, says Tlic Thnes, that sixty of tlieso succeed in dis-posing of some portion of their streat sweepings for agri-cultnral purposes, seventy-four mate no attempt to turn toaccount the fertilising value of the material, though somepart of the latter is used for filling in low land, for reclaimingmarsh land, &c., and the remaining seventy dump the materialin streams or other bodies of water, or on land, without anysystematic attempt at utilisation.
