A unique fireplace made from Maw's tiles installed in Room 18 of the Best Western Valley Hotel Ironbridge.


This example of Victorian tiling is in the Best Western Valley Hotel in Ironbridge, Shropshire. In the 1870s the hotel (then called Severn House) was occupied by Arthur Maw, a celebrated tile maker at nearby Jackfield. There he had a factory employing some 140 men and 40 women. His company's tiles enjoyed a worldwide reputation. This fireplace, in Room 18 of the Best western Vally Hotel, Ironbridge, is said to be unique and an excellent example of Maw's work. the tiles were produced at Jackfield where tiles are still produced to this day.
