Crystal Palace Park dinosaur model. This is one of several 19th-century models sculpted by Benjamin Waterhouse Hawkins, working closely with Joseph Paxton and Richard Owen. They were installed in the world's first dinosaur park, which opened at Crystal Palace Park, London, UK, in 1854. They were based on 19th-century fossil discoveries and knowledge, and the reconstructions include some inaccuracies. This model is of a dinosaur called Megalosaurus, which lived about 175 million years ago in the Mid-Jurassic period. Photographed in August 2013.
