"Prince Ahmed and Peri-Banu" published April 17,1932 in the American Weekly Sunday magazine painted by Edmund Dulac. Prince Ahmed’s father couldn’t make up his mind as to which of his three sons to will the kingdom. He hit upon the idea of giving it to the one who shot an arrow farthest. Prince Ahmed’s arrow kept on going. He followed it for miles. He overtook it beside a great gate in the side of a mountain. Through it Prince Ahmen entered a marvelous cavern. It was the home of the fairy Peri-Banu who had been hovering about unseen when he shot, had instantly fallen in love with him.

In 1923, “Edmund Dulac, the Distinguished English Artist,” as he was billed on the covers, was contracted by the Hearst organization to paint watercolors for The American Weekly Sunday magazine. The contract lasted 30 years and Dulac painted 107 watercolors for thirteen different series until his last Arabian Nights in 1951.
