People in the popular Yasaka Shrine to conduct their first visit of the new year. The crowds were lower then on Monday and Tuesday but still the shrine was packed. Light snow showers did little to stop the crowds. People getting fortune papers, first they shake a wooden barrel box and then slips out a stick with a number. This number is then exchanged for a fortune slip which can be either good or bad luck, the price, 200 Yen, (£) is the same whatever. Credit-Malcolm Fairman/Alamy Live News.
