Man walking by the derelict old Glasgow Royal High School building featuring the statues of Cicero, Galileo, James Watt and Homer.

The Charles Wilson designed buildings on Elmbank Street opened in 1846 as private school Glasgow Academy. It was bought in 1878 by the Glasgow School Board and became the new home of the High School, the city’s oldest school founded in 1460. It was closed in 1976 and has most recently occupied by Strathclyde Regional Council and Police Scotland. The statues on the facade are Cicero, Galileo, James Watt and Homer sculpted by J Mossman in 1878.
