In six months after, or on the 14th ofJanuary, 1871, Deves Brothers made over, as theywere authorized to do by the 29tli clause of thecontract, the affair to Mr. Henry Meiggs, w^ho withhis accustomed energy had the line finished andin the hands of the Government in less than twoyears after transfer of the concession.
