Business is fairly good, but only the good and fancy stock is selling readily. The short stock and the culls hardly move at all. The good offerings bring a good price for this time of the year, while the poor grades that do sell move only at the lowest prices. Eoses are fairly plentiful, but a great many of them are short-stemmed. Car- nations are in the market again. They are the cut from the new stock. Few Easter lilies are available. Some ru- brum lilies are coming into the market. Blooms from New York have been added to the aster receipts during the last fortnight. As a whole they are fairly good and prove a welcome addi- tion to the offerings. Gladioli are in good supply. Dahlias are coming into the market regularly and are excellent in quality. Greens are meeting with a good demand. Various Notes. C. E. Critchell returned from the con- vention August 30. After he departed from Detroit he went to Cleveland, Buf- falo and other points before returning home. He found that during his ab- sence his force had sold more wild smilax than he had ever sold before at this time of the year. Miss Laura Murphy returned from her vacation August 30. Miss Murphy, together with some friends from Ala- bama, drove from here to Chicago, took the boat for Mackinac, spent a fort- night at the Murphy cottage at Les Cheneaux, went to Detroit
