Continuous alert is main- tained in southern California against both MEXICAN FRUIT FLY and ORIENTAL FRUIT FLY. The Federal JAPANESE BEETLE (Popillia japonica) quarantine was extended during 1962 to include all of the State of INDIANA and parts of GEORGIA, KENTUCKY and SOUTH CAROLINA. The new regulations became effective in those States on Septem- ber 21.
