PHOTO:JEFF GILBERT 24th August 2022, London, UK National Dogs Day - Pip, a ‘rothound’ charged with sniffing out wet and dry rot with handler Isobel Mar at St Bartholomew’s Hospital North Wing. As part of the Barts 900th anniversary campaign, Barts Heritage – which looks after the older parts of the hospital – is undertaking restoration work at the beautiful North Hall. Pip, a ‘rothound’ charged with sniffing out wet and dry rot, and her operator, Isabel. Pip is a specially trained Sprocker Spaniel (half Cocker Spaniel/half Spaniel) with a nose trained to detect active rot in old buildings, and she has already practised her skills at the Houses of Parliament, Wentworth Woodhouse and at a number of National Trust properties.
