Handsome border plants, thriving in any ordinary garden soil, but preferring a moist, deep loam, where they will not suffer from drought. Few plants are more effective at their season of bloom, which extends from early in August till late in September. Cardinalis (Cardinal Flower). Rich, fiery cardinal flowers; strong plants, often pro- ducing 10 to 18 spikes, 24 to 30 inches long. Syphilitica Hybrida (Great Lobelia). A choice selection of our native Lobelia, pro- ducing large spikes of flowers varying from blue to pure white; July to September; 2 to 3 feet. 20 cts. each; $ per doz.; $ per 100. LUPINUS POLYPHYLLUS (Lupine). Effective plants, producing large spikes of flowers. Mrs. Ely says of them: "May be planted either in the autumn or early spring.
