It will be seen that the general principle of gundistribution corresponds with that of the gunned battleships and the Cardiff class of lightcruisers—, two positions fore and aft and one amidships ; that this is the best possible spacing isgenerally conceded but it certainly seemed a drastic step to adopt it for destroyers and place weights atsuch a height above the water-fine. However, the V and W classes are an unqualified successand the most efficient destroyers afloat.
