Cayley's flying machine design. Design drawings for a human-powered flying machine designed by the English engineer George Cayley (1773-1857). Cayley developed several designs for aircraft, including a glider. This design shows the pilot (upper left) and several views of the aircraft from above, below, and from the sides. This illustration was published in a paper titled 'Memoire sur la vol artificiel' by George Cayley, appearing in 1853 in bulletin number 4 of the the French aeronautical society (Societe aerostatique et meteorologique de France) that had been formed in 1852.
