Boot tuterous, black, roundish. Leaves few, often five-leafleted, very dark green. Flowers sometimes two on a stem, petals yellow, oval, usually five iu number (but sometimes six), two alternately outer, and two inner, and one having one side within, and one side outside the next petal; flower-stalk hairy, short so as only just to rise above the involucral leaves, which arc three in number, neai-ly stalkless, and deeply cut.
