Peach, general foreman of the Fort Madison (la.)shops of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad. A Kink For The Drafting Room AN inexpensive and effectual method of arranging astraight edge in connection with a large drawingboard is shown by the accompanying line drawing. Theidea is to produce a simple method which will maintain, the general longitudinal direction of the straight edgewhen moved transversely across the board, so that linesdrawn according to the straight edge when in any posi-tion will be parallel to each other. The direction of thestraight edge is maintained by two pieces of strong cord, preferably indicator cord which will not stretch, thatterminate at each end of the straight edge and pass overseveral pulleys. Banjo stops are used as the terminatingposts of the cords, so that they may be easily tightened. A Kink for the Drafting Room. and held taut. Each cord passes from the stop to a pulleyat the end of the board, and continues to a second pulleywhich revolves in a plane perpendicular to that of thefirst pulley. It is then led to the corner diagonally acrossthe board, where it is guided by a similar arrangement ofpulleys and continued to a stop in the end of the straightedge opposite to that at which the first end of the cord isattached. This arrangement has proven satisfactory in place ofthe usual T square in connection with large boards. Itpermits the straight edge to be used at a slight angle, buta very great deviation from the horizontal is most satisfactory diameter of pulley to be used inconnection with this device is equal to the thickness ofthe board.
