Maggie's Cancer Caring Centre, South West Wales, Swansea, United Kingdom. Architect: Kisho Kurokawa Associates, Garbers & James,
Maggie's Centre at Swansea was completed by Garbers & James in 2011 from a sketch by Kisho Kurokawa, who was commissioned shortly before his death in 2007. The ninth of such centres in the UK, it offers a space of caring for those with cancer through counselling, relaxation, information and support. The building is formed of two curving tapering wings containing counselling rooms on either side of the central room, which was modelled on the 'niwa' of the traditional Japanese farmhouse, in which cooking and indoor work took place around the open fire.
