Ultraviolet (UV) water purifier. This portable rechargeable device (Steripen) emits shortwave UV light from the bulb submerged in the water, and is used to make water safe to drink. Shortwave UV light has germicidal properties, disrupting the DNA of bacteria, protozoa, viruses and moulds and rendering them harmless. It does not leave an aftertaste to the treated water, and is an alternative to water purification tablets as a way of avoiding waterborne diseases.
