D. 1632. This meeting house was a plain simple structure built probably oflogs and had a thatched roof, the congregation presumably beingcalled to worship by the beating of a drum. Acknowledgment is hereby made to Mr. Perrin, treasurer of FirstChurch, Cambridge, for the privilege of looking through the churchrecords and copying such portions as were desired. Here was foundthe following entry: 1 The first month of the calendar year at that time was Site of Home of Lt. William French. Cambridge. Massachusetts FRENCH AND ALLIED FAMILIES 33 William French and Elizabeth his wife, both members in full com-munion. Their children — Elizabeth now Eliot and now joyned at Ded-ham. Mary baptized in England between two and three years old at herfathers joyning. John baptized by Mr. Hooker in Cambridge. Sarah,Jacob, Hannah, born and baptized in this church, originally Congregational in doctrine, but since 1829Unitarian, subscribed to the following covenant: We whose names are underwritten do solemnly acknowledge JesusChrist to be the Son of God and the Savior of the world, as he is repre-sented in the New Testament; and as his disciples we do now express ourearnest desire and intention to live a holy, religious and useful life, afterthe example and in the spirit of our Lord.
