Silicon wafer and chips. Processed silicon wafer. The wafer contains dozens of identical integrated microcircuits, which appear as squares. Some of the chips on this wafer are test sites, used to test the integrity and performance of the other integrated circuits. If the circuits pass all their tests, they will be cut up so that each square microcircuit may be fitted into a holder for use in circuit boards.
