On May 30, 2013, Matthew from Colorado spotted a large fossil in a layer of limestone. He left the fossil undisturbed and came in to the Ben Reifel Visitor Center to fill out a site report, describing his find and telling us about its location. One of our park paleontologists took a look at Matthew's discovery and reports that it is a rhizolith--a cast of the roots of an ancient plant.
