Poland, Warsaw: View of the three-storied building of the Royal Castle in the historic part of the Polish capital.

The Royal Castle became the official seat of the Polish kings in 1596, when King Sigismund III Vasa moved the capital from Cracow to Warsaw. The Castle was burned in 1939, completely destroyed during the Warsaw Uprising 1944 and rebuilt in 1971-1984. The whole Old Town complex has been on the UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites since 1980.
