On Oc-tober 24, 1861, he was transferred to the OrdnanceCorps, and was on duty at Watertown Arsenal,Massachusetts, from November i, 1861, to June 10,3863. During this period he also acted as AssistantInspector at the South Boston and other gun fac-tories. He was commissioned First Lieutenant ofOrdnance, March 3, 1863, and his skill in this branchof the service led to his selection as one of the officersto conduct the operations against C
