The only limit to our research efforts that can be considered tenable will be the outer boundaries of the range of research of other collaborating research organizations, or if these are lacking, the limits of the distribution of the tuna populations upon which our California fisheries are based. Even these limits will probably be extensive, and the resulting effort required on our part will be proportionately great. Investigations of the California tuna fisheries have so far been frag- mentary. Early interest centered on the albacore which was the first tuna fishery developed.
