He wasa member, as well as treasurer, of Hoods TexasBrigade Monument Committee, which has justended its labors through erection of a magnifi-cent monument to the brigade on cnpitolgrounds at Austin. General Hamby rose torank of Captain during the war and while Ad-jutant General of Tennessee the Khedive ofEgypt offered him a colonelcy in the Egyptianarmy, which his desire to return to Texascaused him to refuse. General Ilamby standshigh among his comrades of Hoods TexasBrigade as a true comrade, and his position inState financial circles is an enviable one.
