In the Lunar Receiving Laboratory at NASA’s Manned Spacecraft Center, geologists Don Morrison (left) and Fred Horz flank University of Texas geologist/professor William (Bill) Muehlberger as the three look at a rock brought back from the moon by Apollo 16 astronauts. Lunar sample 61016, better known as ‘Big Muley’, is a large breccia sample, the largest moon rock returned by any Apollo crew, which was named after Muehlberger, the Apollo 16 field geology team leader. May 19, 1972.
