Amebocytes remained viable for 12 hours or more under these conditions. RESULTS Phagocytosis The amebocyte, which has been extensively studied in this and other molluscs (Faure-Fremiet, 1927), is a granular round cell floating freely in the blood stream. On contact with glass it flattens out and moves continually over the surface of the slide. This motion under phase may clearly be seen to begin by the extrusion of a.
