In 1893 he returned to Missouri, and accepted the posi-tion of vice-president of the Kansas City Elevated Ry. andwas instrumental in bringing about the consolidation of thatsystem with the Metropolitan Street Railway Co. In 1894he took the receivership of the Northeast Street RailwayCo. and put the property on a paying basis in about twoyears. In 1895 he began his connection with steam roads.
