The Capitol Reef in Utah.


This is the view that California-bound pioneers had of the Waterpocket Fold as they travelled in their wagon trains through Utah. These Navajo sandstone features reminded them of the domes of Capitol buildings and the natural barrier to their journey reminded them of a reef. Hence the name "Capitol Reef."
