Antifracking protesters protest outside a Cuadrilla contactors business in Bolton.

A small group of anti-fracking protesters gathered at the entrance of A. E. Yates in Bolton, a civil engineering firm which was awarded a million UK pound contract to construct the site for Cuadrillas shale gas fracking site at Little Plumpton near Blackpool, England. Lorries were unable to leave the site due to the early morning protest although staff cars entered the site. Refered to as 'pop-up' protests, several businesses contracted or subcontracted to Cuadrilla have ceased dealing with Cuadrilla due to being targeted. The protesters, or protectors as they call themselves, have been given written assurances by the firms that have ceased dealing with Cuadrilla. Daily protests continue at the entrance to the shale gas site on the A583, Preston New Road. Despite the local population being against the area being fracked by cuadrilla and Lancashire County Council refusing their application, Bromsgrove MP and Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Sajid Javid overuled Lancashire County Councils decision and permitted Cuadrilla to operate the site. Locals and protesters say they do not have a social licence and they have fears that the water table (aquifers), land and air will be polluted.
