USS SOMERSET, At sea (Oct. 21, 2016) – Capt. Michael Snodgrass, right, and Capt. Lewis Martin complete pre-flight checks inside an AH-1Z Cobra before taking off from the USS Somerset (LPD 25) Oct. 21, 2016, during Hawaii Sustainment Training for the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit and Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group. Cobra attack helicopters provide cover for advancing ground forces or can escort assault support helicopters en route to a landing zone. Snodgrass and Martin are AH-1Z Cobra pilots, both are with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 163 (Reinforced), 11th MEU.
