After administering approximately 71,000 vaccinations, the site closed May 27. While at the site Maj. Gen. Rich Neely, of Springfield, Illinois, the Adjutant General of Illinois and Commander of the Illinois National Guard and Command Sgt. Maj. Dena Ballowe, of Litchfield, Illinois, Senior Enlisted Leader of the Illinois National Guard, offered their thanks to members working the sites and presented challenge coins recognizing ILNG members for their efforts. Neely told the troops the ILNG couldn’t work the COVID-19 mission without them, while Ballowe called the Soldiers the real heroes in the fight against COVID-19. Since the first mass vaccination site opened Jan. 26, the sites where ILNG members assisted the local health departments have provided million vaccinations to residents.
