Seven years elapsed before the choice was endorsed by asubsequent Committee, and ratified bv the Governor. This block thenformed a part of the Government Domain. It was at the back of the oldGovernment House, which then stood at the present intersection of Bridgeand Phillip-streets. In fact, the allotment is described in the old papersas being near the kitchen garden. During the years occupied in these negotiations, the Library hada rather precarious existence.
