Beirut and environs. Satellite image of Beirut (at centre), Lebanon, and the surrounding area; the colours here approximate to natural tones. North is at top. Beirut has docks along its northern shore and an airport in its southern suburbs. Lake Litani (at lower right) lies on Lebanon's major, and only navigable, river. Water from this river, the Litani, is used to irrigate a patchwork of fields in the Bekaa valley (at centre right).
