Pangea asteroid approaching the Earth, artwork. This asteroid is thought to have impacted the Earth 250 million years ago at the end of the Permian Period, causing a mass extinction event. Called \The Great Dying\", it is thought that 75 percent of land species and 95 percent of marine species died out at this time. The asteroid hit the Earth at the southern tip of Pangea, the supercontinent that dominated the Earth at the time."
