In landscape with trees & building, a group of people next to fountain, including 2 seated ladies, one playing the cythera & the other singing from score in center, near pedlar trying to sell merchandise & additional man in background; gentleman galantly offering drink to seated lady with wine cooler at her feet (R); young shepherd seated on rock with sheep watches the scene (L), with river & buildings in distance (L) Borders missing (Soustelle). The main figure group in this tapestry is based on a François Boucher design, The Charlatan, created for the Fêtes Italiennes series, woven at Beauvais (Cavallo). GCPA 0240662 shows the tapestry in full before it was cut in 2 between 1935 & 1956. The resulting 2 tapestries had the following dimensions: H 6'2" x W 3'6" (left 1/3) & H 6'5" x W 7' (right 2/3).
