A WOMAN CLOTHED IN THE SUN-oil on canvas with the moon under her feet, and upon her head a disc held by two serpents. The woman is pregnant and about to give birth, "travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered" (12:2). Around her dancing in worship four nude acolytes. The text that inspired the image; is a figure from Chapter 12 of the Book of Revelation (written ca. AD 95) possibly by Saint John the Evangelist seen writing in the left middle ground.
