View of Sopsokha village, paddy fields & building with phallic painting en route to Chimi Lhakhang monastery, Punakha District, Bhutan
Located near Sopsokha village, Chimi Lhakhang stands on a round hillock on a site founded by maverick Buddhist saint Drukpa Kunley who lived in the 15-16th century. Known as the "Mad Saint" or “Divine Madman” for his unorthodox ways of teaching Buddhism, he advocated the use of explicit phallus symbols which can still be seen on the walls of houses and buildings throughout Bhutan.
