REYNOLDS, Sir Joshua (b. 1723, Plympton Earl, d. 1792, London) Master Hare 1788-89 Oil on canvas, 77 x 64 cm Musée du Louvre, Paris In 1788, when Reynolds was at the summit of his reputation, he painted this portrait for one of his aunts, Anna Maria Lady Jones. The sitter was Francis George Hare, the nephew or adopted son of Lady Jones. Two years after it was painted this picture was already famous.
