Panorama Art Installation by the Gruppe180 () at the Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) to commemorate the 60 anniversary of the end of World War 2. The vistor is confronted with a huge 180 degree panoramic image of the destroyed Pariser Platz in 1945 - giving him the illusion of today and the past in one single view. --- The Brandenburg gate was one of eigtheen city gates, built in 1788-1791 by Carl Gotthard Langhans, based on the propylaeum of the Acropolis (Athens) with 6 doric columns in both sides. In 1794 the gate was crowned with the Quadriga, designed by Johann Gottfried Schadow in cast bronze, showing the Goddess of Victory in her four horse chariot - quadriga. While Berlin was seperated in a western and eastern part, the gate was situated in no man´s land, just behind the Wall. After reunification in November 1989, the Gate was reopened on December 22, 1989; and totally renovated a few years later. --- The Pariser Platz, built in 1734, on the plans of the chief building director of royal residences, Philipp Gerlach, is one of the most prominent city squares in Berlin. Together with the Brandenburg Gate (1888-1891), it characterizes the western end of the avenue known as Unter den Linden. During World War II the square was destroyed and then became part of the inaccessible border strip from 1961 to 1989. In the early 1990's the Pariser Platz was restored.
