Over the entablature is the inscription "Restauratum 1849"...it is understood the magnificent collection of pictures will be open to the inspection of the public, and a separate staircase is arranged at the north-east corner; so that the freedom of access to the public will not interfere with the privacy of the noble Earl's establishment'.
