PORTLAND, ORB. The Market. Conditions are quiet in business chan- nels. The cold weather for the last week has put the damper on* also the beginning of the Lenten season. Flow- ers are scarce. Boses are slow in bloom- ing, there being hardly enough to take care of the local demand. Carnations are short of the demand and also are slightly off in color. Violets and or- chids are scarce. Cyclamens, genistas, azaleas and daffodils, while not over- plentiful, have moved well. Green goods are scarce; the local supply has been almost exhausted. The closing of the first term of the high schools created a demand for some stock, but not so much as in for- mer years, as the school board recently barred all flowers at commencement exercises. Pussy willows are in evidence in the windows, a sure sign of spring time. Various Notes. Sam Roake, the local greens dealer, has several men in the woods all the time and says it keeps him busy to get all the orders £lled. M. Rosaia, of Seattle, passed through en route to California. While here, he bought considerable stock for ship- ment. E. R. C. CHICAGO NEW
