Antique 19th-century illustration depicting The Painter in his Studio, painting by Gerrit Dou (dated 1647). Dou was Dutch Golden Age painter who specialised in genre scenes and is famous for his trompe l'oeil niche paintings. He was born on April 7, 1613 in Leiden, Netherlands and died on February 9, 1675 in Leiden, Netherlands. Engraving published in Systematischer Bilder Atlas - Bauwesen, Ikonographische Encyklopaedie der Wissenschaften und Kuenste (Brockhaus, Leipzig) in 1875.
