Psyche, seated at end of canopied bed, combs her hair as 3 nymphs, 2 with butterfly wings, assist her; nymph on L brings pitcher on platter & nymph on R holds mirror; flowers strewn on floor (UPR & LWR BRD) centered cartouche with scene flanked by putti, birds & rinceau; (L & R BRD) bottom to top: shell, Corinthian capital, male caryatid half-figure, masks, male figure in cartouche at mid-point, foliate ornament, pair of birds, bust of siren supporting basket of flowers This series was copied after a series initially created in Brussels for Francis I after Raphaelesque models traditionally attributed to Michiel Coxie. This series was very popular during the first half of the 17th century & was woven in many Parisian ateliers.
