Haven The accompanying photographs show interior views of one ofthe two compartment cars recently built for the New York, NewHaven & Hartford by the Carney & Smith Car Uaylon, were delivered on December 19 and 20, 1907, and immediaielyput in service between New York and Bosion. By so doing there is gained an active mechanical ad-vantage of 50 per cent, over the established conditions for form-iiig the standard flange. The delivery ot the base is then as posi-tive as shorter flanges beginning at the web. If the only truerolling action, which drags the metal through the passes, is ex-cited at the converging of ihe flange and web, the presentation ofa like influence higher u|) on the flange will make the forming ofstill longer flanges possible. The true mechanical advantages theflat-bottom doublo-head rail will permit of. together with its abilityto equally distribute the heat throughout all the parts, and prin-i-ipally the base, enables Ihe whole section to go through any num-lier of roll passes consistent with the workable state of the number of roll passe
