Morrison in 1869 formed a company to build a road from New Buffaloto St. Joseph, and another organization known as the Lake Shore R. R. Co., ofWest Michigan, was to extend the line to Muskegon. A line was i)uilt from Holland to Grand Rapidsin 70; one from Muskegon to Big Rapids in 72; and later from Grand Ra])ids toNewaygo, all becoming a part of tliis system, which in 1881 was extended toLacrosse, Ind., where it has direct connection with the Pan Handle and L. N. C. This extension crosses numerous trunk lines, which would indicate itsgreat importance. With the above consolidations, extension since to Petosky andBay View and other associate connections, this system now operates over 1,000miles of road and is one of the most important transportation lines in , is the principal terminal point for freight tonnage, and the connectionssecured through this line to any part of the continent adds greatly to the transpor-tation facilities
