But when to its mag- nificent and stately form is added the beauty of its large, drooping spikes of magenta- colored flowers, each flower as large as a Gladiolus, it makes a plant without a rival. The growth of the plant is remark- ably strong and robust, grow- ing from five to seven feet high, each stalk terminating with a long flower spike. We have had seven or eight, often six spikes m bloom at one time, bearing from twenty to thirty flowers each. The massive deep-green Musa-like leaves alone would make this a valuable acquisition, but when we see its magnificent magenta flowers, over three inches long and two inches wide, suspendedfrom its deep red whip-like flower stalks It 18 difficult to find words to express our admiration—so different in general character, it is hard to believe it is a Canna.
