Vintage portrait of Anglo-American boxer Arthur Chambers (1846 or 47 - 1923). Chambers, born in Salford, Lancashire, began boxing professionally in 1864 after serving in the Royal Navy and moved to the USA in 1871 before winning the Lightweight Championship of America the following year. He temporarily retired after having a finger amputated in 1877 but returned to take part in one of the greatest lightweight bouts in history - a 136 round win over John H Clark in 1879.
